Why We Love This Tutorial:
These earrings are actually super fast to whip up, you could easily make them is less than an hour (if not 30 minutes!). We have always loved the mixture of pastel colours together, so this time it’s Morganite and Amazonite together. Soft pinks, blues, greens and yellows create a unicorn-inspired, bling-y set of earrings! Of course, just like almost all of our tutorials, you could use this design with completely different colours – *even the Amazonite drop is quite versatile… you could use a headpin instead and use any bead you like as the drop.
Beads and Materials You’ll Need (product name is clickable):
- 3mm faceted round gemstone beads (we’ve used these Morganite 3mm faceted round)
- Teardrop Gemstone Bead (we’ve used these Amazonite faceted teardrops, but see note above*).
- 15/0 Seed Beads in Pearlised Cream
- 18ga wire
- 26ga wire (24ga wire would work just fine, too).
- Tarnish Resistant Earwires (in silver)
- Tarnish Resistant small pinch bail
Tools You’ll Need:
- Round Nose Pliers
- Flush Cutters
- Hammer & Anvil (optional, see note below).
Method:
- Cut about 20cm of 18ga wire. For the basic shape of your teardrop – you can use a ring mandrel or something else with a diameter of about 20mm to form the curve. Trim one tail (the tail that crossed the other wire) to about 10mm using flush cutters.
- Hammer the frame to harden it up. This step is optional, but it helps the teardrop to keep the shape.
- Take your your pinch bail and cut of the top part of the bail using flush cutters (we don’t want to use this part, as it would hang too low). Attach the pinch bail to your Amazonite teardrop, then slide this onto the frame.
- Now take the small, 10cm tail and using round nose pliers, wrap it around the main wire. This will secure it in place.
- Then, cut the top wire (to about 1cm) and form a loop. Your frame is finished.
- Now take about 50cm of 26ga wire. Wrap a few times around the frame to secure it. Then thread on 10x size 15/0 seed beads followed by 15x 3mm faceted morganite beads. Push all of these beads close to the frame, and then simply wind them around the frame until you reach the Amazonite teardrop. At this point you simply need to wind past the bail. Now, add another 15x morganite faceted 3mm beads followed by 10x 15/0 seed beads. Continue winding on the beads.
- Finish off winding on the beads, and wrap the wire 3 or 4 times around the wire frame.Trim the tails of the 26ga wire with your flush cutters. You can manouver the cluster around the frame if it’s not quite in the right spot.
- Add a earwire to the top loop, and you’re finished! Oh, except you will need to go ahead and make the second earring 😉
