Probably the most popular semi-precious stone, amethyst offers a stunning, rich purple that almost everyone appreciates. We stock a variety of different Amethyst beads, including ‘Banded Amethyst’ (a type of Amethyst in which bands of light and dark purple form); Light Amethyst (sometimes also called Lavender Amethyst, and is a much lighter purple); and simply ‘Amethyst’ which is the more consistent deep purple, translucent kind.
Amethyst Meaning & Uses
The word Amethyst is derived from a Greek word meaning “not intoxicated”. It is believed to assist in sobering one up in times of overindulgence. And not just for alcohol, but all forms of overindulgence or addiction such as food, drugs, sex or even over-thinking. But Amethyst is not the anti-fun crystal! It simply provides common-sense and a calming effect, helping one gain control of their life and emotions.
Physically, Amethyst is said to be useful for alleviating insomnia due to it’s calming effect on the nervous system. It is also useful for balancing hormones and assisting the endocrine system; this has a positive effect on metabolism.
