Iolite has a unique and unmistakable colour; it is a deep, violet-blue stone with flashes of grey or indigo, depending on the light. It has a slightly translucent quality and a dreamy, shifting appearance. Iolite is one of the more rare (i.e. expensive!) gemstones, and comes is a variety of grades. Gem grade Iolite (like you might find cut & faceted and in rings for example) tends to be more blue, almost like sapphire, but would be thousands of dollars if made into a strand of beads. Our Iolite contains a mixture of blues and greys, and is in an affordable form giving access to all those wonderful properties as described below.
