Kyanite & Clear Quartz Double Strand Necklace Tutorial
Why We Love This Tutorial:
This is a very simple double-strand necklace, simply strung on tigertail. This is quite a dainty necklace, and is designed to be worn as a choker; it is only about 38cm long so you may wish to adjust this for your own sizing. We have used one of our new gemstone pendants in this necklace, and some long Kyanite drop beads. We have made a previous version of this necklace using Amethyst (see the end of this tutorial for the photo), so really design options are limitless! (In fact, I plan to make a Turquoise and Picture Jasper version… stay tuned, I’ll post it here if I make it!).
Beads and Materials You’ll Need:
- Gemstone Pendant (we have used this Clear Quartz pendant). Our pendants change regularly, so you may need to choose a different pendant. Pretty much anything will work!
- Long Chips/Drops (we have use these Kyanite Beads. We have often used the top drilled nugget beads in this design as well, and they work really well).
- 4mm Round Gemstone Beads (we have used Clear Quartz 4mm round)
- 4mm Round Glass Beads (we have used Iolite colour)
- Size 11/0 Seed Beads (we have used Iolite colour)
- 2x Crimps
- 2x clamshells (or you can just use the crimps, but I like the neat look of clamshells).
- Clasp of your choice (we’ve used a silver toggle clasp)
- Tiger Tail (we used 0.45mm)
Tools You’ll Need:
- Flat Nose pliers (for crimping)
- Scissors (for cutting tiger tail – never use pliers for this!)
Method:
- Cut your tigertail to your desired length (cut two lengths). Thread on a crimp over the two pieces of tigertail, and squash the crimp right near the end of the tigertail. Slide your clamshell over this crimp, and close the clamshell. Attach your clasp (we have used a toggle clasp).
- Time to get threading your beads! The shorter strand (which is about 38cm long) is entirely 4mm round glass beads, with a seed bead between each bead. The longer strand (which is about 43cm) starts with a section of seed beads (13cm long); then clear quartz round 4mm bead (x6) spaced with a seed bead; then we’ve used the Kyanite drops (x5) with a clear quartz bead between each (also with a seed bead between each of these beads); So that the pendant sits nicely, we have used a section of 5x seed beads in the middle. Then this pattern is the same on the other side. Definitely easier to use the photo as a reference!
- Finish off your necklace using a clamshell, crimp and the other side of your clasp. And you’re done!
- This is the Amethyst version (it was made in 2022). At the time of posting, we are out of stock of the Amethyst Pendants and clear quartz long chips… however you could definitely make something similar using different beads. This is just to show that you can make multiple versions of this design 🙂
